5. Death and Life Endings

The eighth house which rules death - the sign on the cusp, the location and status of the ruler and planets in the 8th; these represent the nature of the death and circumstances surrounding it. The fourth house is the other area to be examined because it rules “life-endings.” The sign on the cusp, the ruler, and plancts in the 4H indicate the circumstances that surround us at the end of the life.

President John Fitzgerald Kennedy The chart of JFK is an interesting example to study because we all know the circumstances surrounding his death.

  • He was assassinated - shot in the head.
  • He was surrounded by thousands of people at the time.
  • There was confusion about the identity of the assailant.
  • People mourned his passing.

The eighth house has five planets (Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Sun and Venus, in that order).

  • Many planets in the 8th many people witnessed JFK's passing. Many planets can also indicate many factors involved in a death.
  • It would be a very public death - Venus (the ruler the 8th, with Taurus on the cusp) squares the Moon, which rules the public. The Moon also rules the Midheaven - a death in the open.
  • Mars is the first planet in the 8th, inconjunct the ascendant - the first house is related to the head. He died - shot in the head, while travelling in a car, elements ruled by Mars.
  • Mars square Uranus in the 4th. He was assassinated by a partisan countryman. It was politically motivated. This is shown a second time by Venus square the Moon (someone from “home”), in the eleventh house of politics.
  • There has been conjecture that the Mafia were behind the killing. The eighth house and Pluto rule “the underworld”, so this is a possibility.
  • Confusion surrounded the circumstances of his death (Venus semi-square Neptune). In any event, his death was going to be controversial and argued about (Mars-Mercury square Uranus). It would be big news and would shock both his countrymen and the world (Mercury conjunct Jupiter, Venus in Gemini square the Moon).
  • Sun sextile Neptune - there would be grief.
  • Uranus rules politics and its placement in the 4th indicates political activity until the end of his days. Saturn rules the fourth house of life-endings and is conjunct the MC in Cancer - he was in office at the end of his life, and held in high esteem. He had a very public funeral.

When JFK died on November 22 1963, Mars by solar-arc was moving over Pluto, the planet of death.
