43. Through fiery aspiration and through the removal of all impurity, comes the perfecting of the bodily powers and of the senses.
Hai yếu tố của tiến trình hoàn thiện là nguyện vọng tinh thần và tinh luyện. Dù vậy, cả hai thực sự là một, và là hai phương diện của giới luật trên Con Đường Dự bị. Thiên cổ luận vốn là cơ sở của giáo huấn nội môn về Raja Yoga, có một số câu cần được trình bày ở đây để chuyển đạt đúng khái niệm nói trên:
Though the two causes of the perfecting process are aspiration and purification, yet these two form really only one and are the two aspects of the discipline of the Probationary Path. The old commentary which forms the esoteric basis of the inner teaching on Raja Yoga has some sentences which will be found of value here in conveying the correct concept:
“Khi hơi thở của lửa lưu chuyển đi lên qua hệ thống, khi nguyên tố bừng cháy hiển lộ thì các chướng ngại tan biến, và những gì trong tối tăm được soi sáng.
“As the breath of fire streams upward through the system, as the fiery element makes its presence felt, that which is hindering is seen to disappear, and that which was obscure becomes illuminated.
Luồng lửa tiến lên và đốt tan các rào cản. Hơi thở tỏa rộng, làm tiêu tan các giới hạn. Bảy cái từ trước đến giờ vẫn yên lặng thì nay sống động. mười cánh cửa, vốn bị niêm kín và đóng kín hay hé mở, thì nay trở nên rộng mở.
The fire ascends and barriers are burned; the breath expands, and limitations disappear. The seven, hitherto quiescent, stir to life. The ten portals, sealed and closed or partially ajar, swing wide.
Năm phương tiện giao tiếp chính đại bắt đầu hoạt động. Các chướng ngại được khắc phục, và rào cản bị vẹt tan. Người đã tinh luyện nay nhận được món quà trọng đại và biết Đấng Duy nhất.”
The five great means of contact rush into activity. Obstacles are overcome, and barriers no longer hinder. The purified one becomes the great receiver and the One is known.”
Các đoạn này bàn về sự tinh luyện bằng lửa và bằng không khí. Đây là sự tinh luyện xảy ra trên đường thực hành yoga. Việc tinh luyện bằng nước đã xảy ra ở các giai đoạn sau trong cuộc đời của người tiến hóa cao, trước khi y dấn bước lên Con Đường Đệ tử. In these words the purification by fire and by air is dealt with and this is the purification undergone on the path of yoga. Purification by water has been submitted to in the later stages of the life of the highly evolved man, prior to treading the Path of Discipleship, and is hinted at in the words “waters of sorrow” so often used. Now the fiery ordeal is undergone and the entire lower nature is passed through the fire. This is the first meaning and the one with which the aspirant
